This year's Summer Arts Festival was much more enjoyable than last year's. Mainly because the weather was in the 70's instead of in the middle of a heat wave like last year. I think it must have been 102 in the shade last year, yuck! This year it rained some but we checked the weather on the news and managed to go on a day with no rain. The last day of the festival was a down pour practically all day but people still came out.
First we took a gallop around all the artist booths and made our purchases. This year I did not buy one thing for myself. My husband however bought a couple of art sculptures from Infinity Art Glass. If you click the word "gallery", then "sculptures", and then "transparent eternity"on the left column you will see what he got. He got the two eternity or infinity sculptures on the end (we got both of ours in blue).
Then I got my stepmother an angel ornament carved out of cherry from wood Scholfield Valley Wood Products. Unfortunately they don't have the angels on their site though. But you can tell from their other items that it must have been a really nice angel.
Also for my Dad I got some fly magnets made out of old spark plugs and metal. He is a mechanic so I thought he might get a kick out of them. I got those from Sugar Post Metal Art (the home of original metal art that doesn't suck, hahaha!). This site is really interesting and it would be perfect if only there were some cats (*wink*).
Then I stopped at a booth called Animalia Pottery where I got a knick knack for one of my special readers here who shall be getting it for Christmas (*wink*). So I can't tell you what I bought here but I can leave some links to their stuff. In fact I just realized they are on Etsy.
I love their stuff and got some little bowls from them last year when they were here. Their shop is closed right now but here is some of their sold items:
They also have a facebook page
and a flickr account. I just love their stuff and they are who got me started liking pottery.
The Omaha Public Library always has a tent at the Summer Arts Festival as well but this year their humongous tent was reduced to a really small size due to lack of volunteers. This was sad because I usually buy a bag or two of books here each year but this year they did not have as many displayed to choose from. Maybe I should think about volunteering next year. I have had a library card for years but have never used it because I just buy books at book stores and online. For all I know my card may not even be any good anymore.
After making the rounds of all the artist booths we grabbed some food. I got tacos from Maria Bonita Catering
and my husband hit the Texas Roadhouse stand
and a booth called Made 2 Grill for a bratwurst.
Then we took our food and grabbed a seat to listen to some blues, jazz, Dixieland, and ragtime by Davina and the Vagabonds.
I had trouble getting their videos to play on their site (could just be my own computer) so clicked through to youtube and got a list of their songs. They weren't too bad actually even though this isn't the type of music I prefer.
From there we stopped at Walmart because I have to keep Yoohoo Chocolate Drink for my BFF's little boy. He loves the stuff and has declared it the "Best chocolate milk in the whole world!!!" LOL even though I don't think it is even milk but more of a chocolate drink made from milk products. Anyway he loves it and my house is the only place he gets it so I had to stock up on it as I was out. It's kind of this special little thing that he and I share.
By this time we were exhausted but we still stopped by Clancy's Pub to grab a drink and play some Keno.
We are regulars at this pub but we do not go to either one on that link but instead go to one nearer to where we live that is in a strip mall. The two on the link are where the snooty people go who think that if they venture east of Dodge then Omaha turns into a war zone where they will have to fight their way in and out and maybe get mugged, carjacked, or killed in the process.
Honestly I don't know how people live being scared of their own fucking shadows and I am thrilled I am not one of them. So I prefer to go where normal people hang out which evidently is not even a place important enough for the company to list on their own fucking site for fear of scaring the hell out of the snooty scaredy-cat ninny pussies in West O just by them reading it. Whatever. Keep them confined in their own area so they don't contaminate us regular normal people with their scaredy-cat pansy-ass dramatic theatrics is the way I feel about it. So BOO BITCHES!!!! People just crack me up.
